Christmas was really fun this year! We were able to spend time with both of our families. On Christmas Eve, we headed to Logan to spend time with Jeff’s family for the day. We had a delicious ham dinner and enjoyed seeing everyone. After stuffing ourselves, we exchanged gifts. Jeff’s parents gave us each our own 72-hour kit. I was THRILLED! I have been meaning to get those put together for years now. It was a much needed and appreciated gift. I feel so much peace of mind now, knowing we are more prepared. We headed home that night and stopped by my parents on our way. My entire family was gathered there for dinner. We visited for a while and found out that the kids are going to have another cousin in July! Lindy and Jake announced that they are expecting. It was so exciting. No one had any idea! It is even more exciting too, because they just moved down to North Salt Lake 5 minutes from us. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of this sweet little babe!
We spent Christmas morning at home. Christmas happened on a Sunday this year, but the kids got up early enough to open presents before we left for church. It was a nice reminder of what Christmas is really about. After church, we headed up to my Mom and Dad’s to exchange gifts with them. Jeff got a Kindle and I got an adorable yellow pea coat! Audrey and Alex got their own beanbags and Lacey got a cute little arm chair. We were completely spoiled by everyone this year and feel so blessed to have such great families! We ended the day with a big feast at my Grandma’s house.
We were also able to give back a little this year. We know a boy Alex’s age with cancer, so we decided to do the 12 days of Christmas for him and his sweet mom. That was probably my favorite thing we did this Christmas. My parents also did Sub-for-Santa for a family in need and we were able to buy gifts for an 8 year old girl. The kids had lots of fun with this. It is always such a great feeling to be able to help others. It has been a tradition in our family for a couple of years now and I hope to always continue it. I don’t know a better way to remember the true meaning of Christmas than to serve others. It brings so much more meaning to the season. I know we will remember experiences like these much more than the presents we opened that year. I hope my kids will always remember this tradition and continue it in their own families someday. Merry Christmas everyone!
