My second run was up the road to East Canyon. It was 8 miles, pretty much all up hill. I ran this leg around midnight, which made it really fun. The moon was just coming up over the mountain, and the temps were in the 50's, my favorite running temperature! Even though this was my "hardest" leg, it was my best run if that makes sense. After I finished that leg, my foot was KILLING me. Somehow it hadn't bothere me while I was running, but when I stopped I could hardly stand it. I knew I had my easiest run in the morning, and thought I would be fine. I just kept popping the anti-inflammatories and prayed for the best.
After some "sleep" on the floor at some High School, we were off again for the rest of the race. My foot was hurting really bad, but I thought I could pull off three miles for sure. The second I started running, I knew it was going to be the longest 3 miles of my life. The pain was excruciating and I almost stopped. I said a quick prayer and asked that the pain would subside enough for me to finish. With the help of Heavenly Father, and my team cheering me on, I was able to do it. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. What a sense of accomplishment!
It took me about a month to recover from the sleep deprivation, but it was worth it, injury and all. After a trip to the doctor, a brace, and six weeks later, I am running again without any pain :)
The whole team (minus Camille). She was running!
Avon Pass. The rocks on the road don't look that big in this picture, but they just about killed me :)
Gettin' ready to run in the dark.
At the finish. I could hardly walk in this picture. I wanted a wheel chair SO bad :)
